FINAL REFLECTION

I developed my my blogging  by posting more frequently, i feel my researching has been effective with helping me plan my narrative for my music video. I also found that researching helped with displaying common conventions with planning out my music video, when planning locations outfits and tone. My blogging research presents clear connections of how its influenced my work and how compose my music video. I am relative happy with the amount of independent post i have accumulated. overall i have 70 blog posts, targets i will set my self is to use a wider range of applications to present my work and have more research blogs

NOTES FOR EVALUATION - Question 1

(note to self: put on paper and then reupload)
In what way does your media product use, develop and challenge forms and conventions of real media product?

- Talk about how we fit the conventions of Andrew Goodwin, for example, eye contact with the camera, amplification etc.
- Talk about the conventions of the indie pop genre; The genuine artist that we have created, the performance element with the studio, the utilisation of performance, the setting.
- Talk about Mulvey's theory - How have we presented our female artist? Does this challenge conventions of females in music videos?
- In terms of filming discuss the conventions of music videos such as the angle, framing and movement. Discuss the use of the fig rig instead of the tripod and the use of movement generally with the tracking, panning and zooming shots.
- Talk about the lip synching and how that went, whether we cut to the beat.

Notes for evaluation

  • In what way does your media product use, develop and challenge forms and conventions of real media product?

I will use a Padlet form to present my work. I feel that this would be a great way to present my work as all the work i analysis can be seen all together. This i feel is better way to present as i can make annotations instead of put large form of information In a giant paragraph.

  • How effective is the combination of your main product and ancillary text ?

I will present this question this question with Thinglink.

  • what have you learned from your audience feedback?
I will present my feed back by embed my received response from YouTube, I will then respond to it

  • how did you use media technologies in the construction and research and evaluation stages?
i will present my work in a Camtasia, I feel this is effective way to do this as i can visual show and present annotations step by step of how i used each individual technology.
I will have 3 videos demonstrating 3 different uses of technology :

  1. video 1, will show how I made my album cover from digi-pax in Photoshop
  2. video 2 , I will show how I edited my music video in Premier Pro
  3. video 3, I will show how I present work, which blogger, applications such as Padlet and research my work to aid me and help me find inspiration

Rough Cut Feedback 2

This is our second take of our rough cut to which is still incomplete. However we have more of a structure developing to which helps the viewer understand the storyline. We plan on colour grading once we've completed the video as then will can visualise how we want it to look, as the structure will be complete. Once we have order of our video figured out we will start putting effects onto certain clips such as slow motion onto the over the shoulder walking shots to make it more effective. We also need to re-film a couple studio shots to complete our intro.

Rough Cut Feedback 1

This is our first rough cut where we didn't quite complete It consisted of a few cuts at the intro instrumental and one base track. This is because we didn't have all our base tracks imported and therefore we didn't want to start cutting the base tracks, which is the majority of the video. Therefore we couldn't receive any feedback to improve it just yet. Today have filmed and imported all our base tracks and we are currently editing the intro and then going to cut the base tracks to start completing our music video. After we have done this Rebecca is going to view our video and give us some feedback to help us improve.

comparison with other videos

there is a connective use of close up and breaking the 4th wall that relates to Andrew Goodwins theory. this closes connects that artist to the target audience.

with the use of the studio it is evident that this is common which is seen in my video and the Zara Larson, i feel this is showing that our video is effective with connecting with my target audience as these conventions they expect to see and can relate to. I think the use of the spot light highlight that artist and brings attention to artist among the instruments, with my artist in our music video we would the stop light to high light that artist so her target audience is drawn to her instead of the negative spacing around her.

DAY TWO EDITING

On the 21st of November we edited for our three hour session. In the lesson we imported all the base tracks that we have and marked the lyrics to match up with the audio. All we have left to do is film our railings location and art wall base tracks which we should be finished will at the end of the week. After filming we should start to cut up our video for the real thing, for the first rough cut.

Improvement after Blogging health check 1

I improved on my blog by posting more frequently, moving from  27 to 39 blog post count, which reached the standard that I should be blogging 4 times a week to improve my mark and raise it. I have used a wider and different range of ways to present my work , by using Gif and Screenshots. I also used a wide range of apps to demonstrate my work in such as Prezi, Camtasia and Emaze.

DAY FOUR FILMING

Today we couldn't film because the weather was bad due to rain and gloomy lighting. Also we didn't want rain in our video background as we have a happy, bright, autumnal atmosphere which the weather did not reflect today. We prepared for this by having extra time for filming in precaution of this weather, as it is Winter and England. Instead we edited our music video by importing our audio soundtrack from YouTube and edited to the beat. Additionally, we put our current base tracks in order to make it easier when editing at a later date.

PITCH TASK 16 - risk assesment (Sam Jahan-Ahmed)

Location: Old Street

Risk
Hazard
How this can be prevented or changed
Roads
Could get hit by vehicle or cyclist.
Stay on the pavement; make sure you are a safe distance from the curb.
Roads and pedestrians
Camera could get hit by vehicle or cyclist. It could also get damaged by pedestrians
Try to avoid peak times like rush hour where these streets will be crowded. Try filming in the side path locations at this time. We should ensure that we are with the camera at all times and guard it.
Dropping camera
The camera could be dropped onto the pavement
We need to be careful with the equipment and guard it.
Night
It could be dangerous at night for the night scenes we need
We should film as soon as the sun sets as it will be winter so the days will be shorter. This means we will not technically have to go out very late but it will be dark

Location: Regents Canal

Risk
Action carried out
How this can be prevented
Canal
Us, or the equipment, could fall into the canal while filming
Film away from the water edge. We should stay where the railings are.
Walking public
They could knock over the camera, get into the shot or find it inconvenient
Make sure to not loiter and stay as quiet as we can. People are friendly there but it would be polite to do so. We should film when it’s less crowded and we should shoot when we’re sure people have walked past the pathway.

  Location: Railings

Risk
Action Carried out
How this can be prevented or changed
Walking public
Members of public could bump into us or the apparatus
Try to work around people and try to film when it’s not crowded
Night
It could be dangerous at night for the night scenes we need
We should film as soon as the sun sets as it will be winter so the days will be shorter. This means we will not technically have to go out very late but it will be dark

  General

Risk
Hazard
How this can be prevented or changed
Thieves
The equipment because it is very expensive might get stolen.
Make sure we aren’t anyway too unsafe, with people around even if it’s not crowded. Stay with our equipment at all times.
Fake flare
Could be unsafe or an annoyance in a crowded area. Could be dangerous to us and the public as they may suspects a fire especially in a city area.
Make sure we use an area where it is appropriate and with no houses or estates or buildings around. We may need to look into the fields around my (sam's) house or another area as we cannot use side paths as we initially planned.

EXTRA TASK - proof of locations - (Sam Jahan-Ahmed)

PITCH - Task 15 Production Schedule (33) Selina Dennis

PITCH TASK 14 - Animatic (Sam Jahan-ahmed)

While making the animatic I realised that I did in fact need more shots to suit the timing of the songs especially with the instrumentals. I added a few more bass track duplicated - the canal shot at the end was repeated as well as the panning shot of the trees we had in the beginning. The panning shot at the end will be filmed at night instead of morning like in the beginning. Colours were used to differentiate the different art walls.

Sunday 9 October 2016

PITCH TASK 13 - Storyboard and shot list (Sam Jahan-Ahmed)

This was our initial shot list. We had a clear idea of the vague outline of what we wanted our video to look like, however, we did not take into consideration the amount of shot that would be suitable. We realised we needs a minimum of 40-50 shots in order to make a sufficient music video. This meant that I had to make another shot list. We also had a draft storyboard made at the same time, with the same problem.

Here are the shot list and storyboard we made, with our aforementioned mistake taken into account. As you can see we have a wider range of shots and more of them.

Friday 7 October 2016

PITCH TASK 11 - Post production (Sam Jahan-Ahmed)

PITCH - Task 10 After Effects (29) Selina Dennis

After Effects, Green Screening and Colour Grading

We will not be using a green screen as we have particular locations where we will film all our music video. Also green screens are not a common convention of an indie pop music therefore we will not be using it.

However, we will be colour grading our music video to golden/pink tones to link to our theme of autumnal colouring which is also portrayed through the artists outfits. We will be doing the colour grading through after effects to get the full effect.

We have taken inspiration from the the American director Wes Anderson and his colour grading techniques of linking the scene colour scheme and characters costume together.

PITCH TASK 5 - Audience 2 Chavarnie Woolcock

I found her own website which presented her social media accounts, links to songs and where they can be found , videos and concerts. There was also and biography on her career and life

I have used YouGov profiler to find a similar artist in the same genre and gender , Ellie Goulding who is in the Pop genre. This is the research that i found.

I also found an artist that is similar, Sam Smith which has the same  characteristics in their target audience, such a the tv shows and social media accounts.

I chosen disclosure as they co write the song that we've chosen for music video, they are also a different genre as to the pervious artist and the genre is electronic, synthpop, which is the same as our artist chosen "Frances" They were relevant to this research as they influences the track.

RECORD SHOP

I went into flash back record shop in the local area, Islington, i asked them what they would expect from the artist and the genre in the music video.
They were generally men which is not particularly the target audience for this genre, but as they had a wide knowledge in music they were still very useful in aiding me in my research.

I asked to two male workers what they would expect
Male worker one : as the songs up beat, there will be a lot of dancing and visual presented such as colours being bright and almost fluorescent. The singer may have a guitar , and maybe backing instrument players.
Male worker two: Stereotype female singer in bright clothing, very instrument illustrated. A backing band, lights maybe a studio based made video.

THE GENRE

The genre of the song we've chosen is Electronic/indie/pop which has many conventions but has a strong use of band elements such as instruments, and bright coloured clothing.
Disclosure Drops New Sam Smith Collab With Short Film [VIDEO]

This is from a Disclosure concert, there is a strong use of light and colour.

PITCH TASK 4 - Audience 1 Chavarnie Woolcock

Our core audience is female , aged between 18-28 , working class/middle class , all ethnicity's, Christianity or no religion, abled, Londoner.
The wider audience would be male same age 18-28 working class , all enthinicty, same religion, disabled/abled, across the uk.
This music video would appeal the the core and wider audience as it will conform to the genre conventions and show artist and its brand. It will have brands of clothing that relate to the audience, such as Nike maybe Adidas.

Portfolio Audience

There name of the our core audience is Georgia is female, she lives in east Anglia, she's is 18 she white British, student, they buy their groceries from Asda, they spend there time on tumblr and other social media sites, they also spend time reading, the news paper they read the sun or the metro. The magazines they read from ok! they use public transport such as buses, they use apple Iphones a tablet/IPad. There brands that they are attracted to are Nike and Forever 21 and Topshop.
There often buy there clothes from here and from Primark and super stores such as Westfields. Favourite  drink is from Starbucks, there would go on holiday to France or Spain. They like the artists as they like there clothing and the style of music.

PITCH - Task 3 Idea and Theory (Selina Dennis)

(20) Pitch Task 2 - Brand Image (Sophie Barber)

Created with Padlet

Our Artist is called Sophie. She is confident and loves to go on new adventures however she does have a soft side, she is very caring and loves to help other. Sophie has a great work ethic and does not shy away from a challenge. The song 'Borrowed Time' fits our artist well as it shows that she doesn't like not knowing where she stands with people and being low on someones priority list when they are at the top.

Sophie is similar to Ellie Goulding and Ella Henderson as they are strong independent young women who have fun but powerful voices.
Our artist likes to look good but has a casual style. As much as she loves to be trendy on a night out she much prefers to look cool and casual with a edgy touch.
Her style will help connect to our target audience as she is not trying to be flashy, she wants to show her down to earth personality to her audience that are mainly made up of creative, young women.
